Every morning at 5am, pre ride, I ask myself why am I doing this? Eddy Merckx, possibly the greatest cyclist of all time once asked the question: “What is talent really?…is it the fact that your heart pumps more volume than the average person’s, or that your blood turns less acidic when exercising? No – talent has to do with your capacity for suffering. You just learn to suffer more.” That’s why I do it!

I feel very privileged to have had the chance to combine the best of both worlds in my role at Phuel. This means being able to stand up and do what we do in front of literally thousands of people and witnessing that wonderful moment when a person’s eyes light up as that classic ‘aha’ moment of learning hits them. It also means being able to have those rich, authentic conversations with clients, challenging them to think differently about their business and their people such that together we ultimately arrive at a far better outcome than they initially thought possible.
